What Living With Epilepsy Feels Like Right Now
On a daily basis, we battle something not many will experience. It takes a toll on us both physically and mentally. Even when we think we’ve been through past events, experiences to prepare us for epilepsy, it takes us to a whole different level. I haven’t done this before, but I am going a bit personal with this blog on how I feel at this moment of time. No sugarcoating, it’s how I feel living with epilepsy. This will hopefully make you take a minute to see how you feel at this time of year.
Grateful
Yes, it probably sounds like a cheesy first one I’m not going to lie. However, after visiting some of my best friends this past weekend I realized how grateful I am for all my family and friends. Without their support, there’s no way in heck I would be where I am. I can go to family members or friends to vent on medical or random stuff to clear my mind. Even though there may be a few people out there that don’t like it that much haha, I really appreciate it. Be grateful for all you have.
Tired
That’s a little more like it right? Summertime can get hectic for me in both good and bad ways. I spent the past four weekends traveling, and while I had a blast with family and friends, it definitely took a toll on my body. I’m blessed because I have a job I love, the opportunity to inspire so many in the epilepsy community, and ability to travel. It does get tiring, especially when you add seizures in the mix. I’ve learned it’s okay to go to bed super early 😉
Stressed
Within the past few months I’ve had so much thrown my way both good and rough it’s hard to keep up. From being nominated for an international award to having important doctor appointments, there’s been plenty to keep me busy! Every week there’s something new on my plate, and it’s both stressful and fun. If it wasn’t for my parents by my side, I don’t know how I would be handling all this! I have to give a shoutout to my cousin for helping me with a few side things that have been giving me issues too 😉 Stress can be a good thing in my mind as long as you can handle it well. People laugh at me when they see my phone screen picture of my favorite golfer, but those athletes are the ones who manage stress the best.
I purposely tried not to include seizures into the paragraphs above because I’ve learned to adapt my lifestyle around my seizures. If I get too tired or stressed, I’ll go to bed early and listen to some Eric Church. Epilepsy plays a role in my life of course, but if you ask the majority of my friends, they will tell you I handle it pretty well. I’m grateful for all the support my family and friends give me along with the epilepsy community. I encourage you to take a minute and reflect on how you feel right now living your life with epilepsy.
